The well cast bronze figures of an Arab warrior and a female servant stand on circular black marble bases, and are signed. Literature: Benezit, ‘Dictionnaire desPeintres, Sculpteurs & etc’ Editions Grund 1976 ‘Bronzes, Sculptors & Founders’ Harold Berman, Hilmarton Manor Press 1976 Pierre Kjellberg ‘Bronzes de 19eme Siecle’, Editions de l’Amateur 1986 Exhibition history: Paris born, a pupil of Ramey, Toussaint & Dumont; commenced exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1859; made a chevalier of the Legion d’honneur in 1867; director of the Geneva School of art in 1867; director of the Institut Francaise in 1891. Published his autobiography, ‘Between two blows of a Chisel’ in 1892.
