Terra Cotta Bust of Young Woman
About the Item
Though sculpted by an Italian artist, this terra cotta head is strongly reminiscent of contemporaneous sculpture created by artists in the Vienna Werkstatte. Marked "Bandini" and "Made in Italy," the artist may have been influenced by Giovanni Bandini's work in Renaissance Italy.

- "Portrait of Young Woman, " Masterpiece by John Gregory, Folger Library SculptorBy John GregoryLocated in Philadelphia, PAAn extraordinary piece of American sculpture, this depiction of a young woman, dated 1930, was sculpted in white marble by John Gregory -- who executed 9 large bas relief panels for the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. -- for Paul Philippe Cret, who was the Library's architect. Gregory is also known for his "Orpheus" bronze at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina, and an equestrian sculpture of General Anthony Wayne...Category
