Turquoise acrylic optical sculpture vase, signed Balle, has a beautiful light quality reflecting through.
Artist Terry Balle work as an optical sculptor reflects his background in science, art and psychology. He received his doctorate in physical chemistry from the University of Illinois, where he studied the interaction of light and matter. After working as a scientist for Bell Labs and Digital Equipment Corporation, he founded a sculpture and design studio in Boston, where he pioneered sculptural techniques using optical materials such as polymer resins as his medium. Balle has worked to perfect these techniques for the past 22 years. Combining various polymers, organic dyes, gold and silver leaf, water and light, he has produced optical sculptures ranging from less than one-foot to ten-feet in height. His work has been exhibited in galleries nationally and has been commissioned for both corporate and private collections.
