This antique porcelain mantel clock demonstrates the 19th century nostalgia for the delicately elegant decorative arts under King Louis XV, also known as the Rococo style. Crafted by celebrated porcelain artist Jacob Petit, this exquisite clock is particularly notable for the way in which the porcelain has been shaped so as to give the clock such a whimsically free-spirited, scrolling shape. These excellent gilt ground vases are high quality antique pieces, dating from the Empire period in France at the start of the 19th century. Each vase is set on a square base, is mounted with twin scrolling handles inset with neoclassical masks, and has a flared gilt ground neck. Both vases are also decorated to the front with depictions of winged putti on gilt ground; one vase shows the putti playing musical instruments, while the other shows them holding writing tablets and laurel wreaths. A fine pair of French porcelain figural perfume bottles. Each in the form of a lady - one is garbed in a pink dress with green shawl and the other in yellow dress with red shawl. Both rest atop a rectangular plinth with gilt accents. Simply a wonderful pair of Jacob Petit type figurines! Date: Early 19th Century Overall Condition: They are in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: Each lacks its figural stopper (likely hats), there are chips and losses to the bases of each (especially at the corners), and each has rubbing to the gold throughout.
