One-of-a-kind Textural Crater Moon Jar by Ilona Golovina
About the Item
This moon jar by Ilona Golovina is hand built using traditional coiling techniques and finished with a crackled terra sigillata surface. Its rounded body rests on a narrow foot and is glazed in a dark bronze, partially covered with a fine white clay wash—creating a compelling contrast of textures and tones.
Inspired by the symbolism of traditional Korean moon jars and the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, the piece embraces imperfection and asymmetry. Its form is intentionally irregular; its surface bears the marks of fracture, tension.
Its imperfections are not flaws but traces—evidence of the artist’s hand and the elemental forces that shaped it. The moon Jar stands firmly on a small foot, giving the round body a sense of elevation and quiet presence.

Self-taught in ceramics, Ilona’s work is rooted in traditional vessel shapes but pushes boundaries through experimental textures, unique clay combinations, and forms that seem to defy gravity.
