Bodil Kjaer Set of Three Cross Blown Glass For Cassina An unmistakable aesthetic language that uses priceless blown extra-clear glass to make an elegant vase in the form of a cross, designed to hold a flower in each of the four spaces inside of it. Bodil Kjær designed Cross in the early 1960s with the idea of creating vases that would support the stems of flowers to highlight their beauty in a natural way. Indeed, the characteristic cross shape allows the focus to be on the individual flower or to use several vases to form dramatic interlocking compositions. Cassina re-edits the Cross vases in three sizes, two of which maintain their original dimensions. While the vase is blown inside the cast-iron mould, the surface is delicately hammered, each tap delivered with slightly different force, making every piece one-of-a-kind STRUCTURE Coloured blown glass COLOURS Extra-clear glass, apple green and aqua. We try to edit our photos to show all of our products as life-like as possible, but please understand the actual color may vary slightly from your monitor About the Designer: Bodil Kjær, Professor, Architect MAA (Member of the Association of Academic Architects in Denmark) was born in Denmark in 1932. She was educated in Denmark, England and the USA, and practised as an architect, designer and planner from her own offices in Copenhagen and London. Between 1955 and 1963, while designing public interiors she developed a series of elements of architecture to solve problems of functional and aesthetic nature. These pieces of furniture, lamps and glass were not designed directly for production but, as other architects discovered them and wanted them for their buildings, they were put into production and marketed in the USA as well as in Europe. Some of these pieces are still available, mostly at auctions, and the Office Desk, today produced by Karakter, can also be seen in three early Bond movies and in recent British films and television series. Bodil Kjær has now returned to Denmark and lives on the east coast of Jutland where she continues to teach, research and participate in the development of the city of Aarhus.
