About
This ancient marble mortar has a rather mysterious aura about it. It is hand-sculpted from a single piece of stone, with beautiful ageing over time. Perhaps the most distinctive element of this piece is the chisel marks apparent on close inspection. These tiny indentations animate the mortar’s making in a tactile way. The cups design for the handles marks it out as a particularly old example.
This piece could be used as originally intended within a kitchen environment or customized as a small sink. It also has plenty of character as a standalone objet. As shown in the photographs, any marks and small fissures appear old, considerably weathered and softened by time. The rest of the piece is in good condition with pleasing age and patina.
