Pair Of Large Planters - Signed And Numbered Sarreguemines - Dark Cobalt Blue -

About the Item

Here is a rare and exceptional pair of ceramic pot holders from the very famous Sarreguemines faience factory.  It is a magnificent work very close to the Longwy blues, with golden geometrical decorations on a deep and chic navy blue background. The wonderful floral pattern shows beautiful tendrils and flowers hand painted in gold color.  In combination with the dark cobalt blue color on the outside, a beautiful sky blue color on the inside, presenting a nice contrast gives this pair of pot holders an incomparable elegance. Period : XIXth Century Circa : 1835 - 1900 Dimensions : Height : 22,5cm - Diameter : 26cm - Diameter of the base : 19cm Signature : Sarreguemines Numbered : 1663 The reputation of Sarreguemines earthenware is well known. In two centuries, the small family industry born during the Revolution has come a long way.  Many lovers of these cheerful and colorful pieces are scattered all over the world. Paul Utzschneider and Paul de Geiger, true one-man bands, have propelled the small town to the forefront of the pottery industry. Since the 19th century, Sarreguemines has offered a vast collection of earthenware, vases, planters, murals, fireplaces, etc. to the whole world. Today, the Sarreguemines faience factory is no more. Nevertheless, some of its flagship collections are still produced by various factories in France. For example, the Lunéville-St-Clément faience factory now produces the "Obernai" collection.
