Pair Of Sarreguemines Cache Pots - Bleus De Longwy - Golden Geometric Decoration

About the Item

A rare and exceptional pair of ceramic pot covers from the highly reputed Sarreguemines earthenware factory.  This is a magnificent work, very similar to the Longwy blues, with gold geometric designs on a deep, chic navy blue background. The wonderful floral motif features magnificent tendrils and flowers hand-painted in gold.  Combined with the dark cobalt blue on the outside, a magnificent sky blue colour on the inside, presenting a lovely contrast, gives this pair of pot holders incomparable elegance. Period: 19th Century Circa : 1835 - 1900 Dimensions : Height : 13,7cm - Diameter : 14,5cm - Diameter of base : 8cm Signature : Numbered : 3816 - Dec 2251 (there is a crack on one of the pots) The reputation of Sarreguemines earthenware is well established. In the space of two centuries, the small family industry that began during the Revolution has come a long way.  Many enthusiasts of these cheerful, colourful pieces are scattered all over the world. Paul Utzschneider and Paul de Geiger were the real masterminds behind the town's rise to the top of the earthenware industry. From the 19th century onwards, Sarreguemines offered the world a vast collection of earthenware, vases, planters, murals, fireplaces and more. Today, the Sarreguemines earthenware factory is no more. However, some of its flagship collections are still produced by various factories in France. For example, the Lunéville-St-Clément faience factory now produces the "Obernai" collection.
