Pair of French late 19th century Renaissance st. Ormolu and marble ewers

About the Item

A striking and high quality pair of French late 19th century Renaissance st. Ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble urns. Each stunning ewer is raised on a circular Rouge Griotte marble base with four protruding block feet below a richly chased beaded laurel band. An elegant mottled and foliate decorated Ormolu socle support presents the base of the urns with additional reeded and foliate bands at the base. The mid section of each urn displays wonderful foliate movements on a hammered background and handsome reserves of panthers in the center. Lovely mottled and scrolled bands accent the base of the neck with an impressive crest to one side and the intricately detailed handle on the other. The impressive handle displays stunning foliate movements leading up to an exceptional winged Sphinx in classical armor. The handle connects to the spouted rim with additional foliate movements and beaded accents.
