1940s Blue, White and Gilt Baluster Vase with Asian Men on Horseback, Hunt Scene
About the Item
The hunting scene with Asian characters and hunting dogs are one of the compelling subjects of this vase. The detail includes several dogs of different breeds. The vase is a mid to late 20th century Baluster Vase or a meiping vase. It is hand-painted, with signature and was created during the 1940s for Western collectors to have a piece of Asian Culture.
Baluster vases have a distinctive silhouette characterized by a high-shouldered body that tapers to a narrower neck. The overall shape resembles that of a plump pear or an elongated bottle. The neck may be elongated and flared or short and straight, depending on the period and style.
Chinese baluster vases are typically made from various types of ceramics, including porcelain, stoneware, or earthenware. Porcelain vases are particularly esteemed for their fine quality and translucent appearance. This is a wonderful piece in very good condition.
