1950s Italian Ceramic Vintage Asymmetrical Decorated Vases, a Pair
About the Item
Elegant pair of asymmetrical multicolored decorated white Italian ceramic vases from the late 1950s-early 1960s. They have a mirrored shape with decorative double-sided hand-made subjects.
The decoration was done using glazed colours and sgraffito to outline the figures in a very minimalist way, typical of the 1950s-60s.
Thanks to thick brown vertical lines in crayon-like, drawn quickly and with absolute spontaneity over the entire surface of the vases, has been created an interesting effect, which is quite rare and in any case limited to this period only.
There is no trademark on the vases but, in late 1950s and early 1960s many Italian pottery companies, especially in the Florentine region, produced this kind of decorated vases and wall plates, with design peculiarities that were often in general very similar to each other, therefore in the absence of trademarks a definite attribution to this or that factory is not possible.
Similar workmanship items are shown in the excellent book "Alla Moda - Italian Ceramics of the 1950s - 70s" by Mark Hill.
