About the Item

A Very Large 19th Century French Baccarat Opaline Crystal Vase with Enameled Putti and Floral Decoration. The amphora form vase is beautifully hand-enameled with hand painted scenes depicting putti playing and flying in the air while popping bubbles and shooting arrows. At the bottom of the vase are two putti blowing bubbles while resting on flowers and vines. The reverse of the vase is a garland of various flowers, trees and vines. The circular base is decorated with laurel leaves on a red ground. In the air are flying doves, all symbolizing love and affection. The entire vase is made of opaline crystal, which is very difficult to produce in this size and exceptional quality. The bottom of the vase is signed "15 Janvier"in red enamel, most Probably made for an Exposition By Attelier De Baccarat. Baccarat is well known for creating masterpieces, like this one, in the 1800's and signing them only bey dates such as this example, Large Opaline vases of this scale and quality are extremely hard to make and very hard to find, only The Baccarat Manufactory was able to produce such Masterpieces.
