19th Century Staffordshire Red and White Begging Spaniel Toby Jug

About the Item

This Staffordshire Spaniel jug is impertinent, from his expression to his hopeful gaze. The eyes seem animated and almost lifelike. This jug is in excellent condition with bright red, white and green and gilt touches in the form of the pup's gold collar and locket. This item came solo from a large estate collection of Staffordshire pieces in Los Angeles. The spaniel was on his own and is looking for a friend, [possibly] or he can go it alone. The mark is worn away from the bottom of the piece. This antique Staffordshire jug dates from around 1860. The spaniel has the compulsory Tricorn Hat, so popular during the 18th century. He is hopeful, as he sits up in the begging position for attention, but a tasty morsel would be even better. This fine fellow's condition is quite good without chips or cracks. It measures 10 inches tall and 5.5 inches deep and wide.

  • 19th Century Corner Chair American or English
    Located in Lomita, CA
The cherub upholstery fabric of this antique corner chair will bring a smile to your face, but the piece deserves a deeper look. It has a secret.: The chair has a "second skin," in a tweed upholstery that someone was reluctant to remove. The cherub upholstery on the armrest of the chair is actually a shawl or drape for the for the chair. It is Victorian, carved and turned walnut on a part-upholstered corner armchair that is English or American from the late 19th Century according to our appraiser. The seat is triangular with a rounded front rail, that is backed by two low arms with raised upholstery. The curved seat rail has a long fringe trim, all raised on four cylindrical bead turned legs on casters. The detachable fabric drape or shawl is priceless. Appraisers beleive this could have possibly been half of a two-piece tete-a-tete chair...
