About the Item
From Tohoku area, Japan.
This Tsubo, pottery Jar is a product of late Edo to Meiji era (estimate 1860s-1910) estimate from the style & condition.
The surface is reinforced & coated with reused Washi (traditional Japanese paper), aimed to give extra sturdiness to the pot.
The unique wabi sabi texture is coming from the layers of reused Washi , the papers were flipped when layered & glued repeatedly for years. so the text on papers became sort of abstract patterns.
The size is ideal for using as a vase or pot cover, but I haven't checked the water leaking of this piece, to keep the paper coat in better condition. Recommend to put smaller water container inside when using as a vase, with care.
