About the Item

Collection of 46 Spanish Colonial Hand-Thrown Terracotta Vessels, Late 19th–Early 20th Century A rare and visually striking assembled collection of forty-six Spanish Colonial–style hand-thrown terracotta vessels in graduated sizes, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The group comprises three monumental tinajas (18” high × 12” diameter), nineteen medium storage vases (10–12” high × 5” diameter), and twenty-four miniature vessels (4” high × 2.5” diameter), each individually wheel-thrown and finished with simple rolled rims. These forms descend directly from Iberian pottery traditions brought to the Americas during the colonial period, adapted to local clays and firing methods. The tinajas would have been used for storing water, wine, olive oil, or grain, while the mid-size vases served for kitchen storage or table use, and the small vessels likely held condiments, oil, or spices. Unglazed interiors and exteriors allowed for natural evaporation and cooling, a hallmark of utilitarian earthenware in hot climates. Each piece bears unique marks of its making—visible throwing rings, tool marks, and occasional potter’s incisions—along with surface wear, lime splashes, and mineral deposits from decades of use. These signs of age lend a warm authenticity that makes the group ideal for both collectors and interior designers seeking a rustic, Mediterranean, or wabi-sabi aesthetic. Displayed together, the vessels create a rich tonal range from deep ochre to pale clay, with the organic variation only possible in hand-formed pottery. Whether installed along a long console, clustered on shelves, or dispersed throughout an interior, this is a ready-made collection that captures the enduring beauty of Spanish Colonial domestic craft. Shown here displayed together on a surface measuring 54" wide × 24" deep, the collection creates a dramatic, ready-made installation for any interior. Measurements: Large: 18” H × 12” Dia (3 pieces) Medium: 10–12” H × 5” Dia (19 pieces) Small: 4” H × 2.5” Dia (24 pieces) Pricing Breakdown (for reference only—collection not sold individually): 3 large vessels (18" H × 12" Dia) at $895 each = $2,685 19 medium vessels (10–12" H × 5" Dia) @ $195 each = $3,705 24 small vessels (4" H × 2.5" Dia) @ $95 each = $2,280 Total Price for the Complete Collection: $8,670 Offered only as a complete collection.

Located in West Palm Beach, FL
Pair of Chinese Export Porcelain American* Market Landscape Vases & Covers China, Circa 1800 * American/ European Market, considered to the Chinese to be the same market, by many. it's been suggested the front and back vignettes of houses in landscape on this model, were painted from a European print the Chinese porcelain workshops acquired. A extraordinary find, a pair of Chinese Export Porcelain American/ European Market painted in sepia, colors and gilt vases & covers, with twelve (12) placed American/ European and Chinese motif vignettes. Each vase complete with its original cover/ lid with gilt recumbent foo-dog, with two front and back oval vignettes of a Chinese tree in landscape. Each of the baluster vases, exquisitely hand-painted front and back with a similar American/ European topographical view of country houses with trees landscape. (The Chinese porcelain workshops probably copied these scenes from a European print) Surrounded by an elaborate painted and enameled trellis with vines and leaves. Some traces worn, additional gilt decoration is evident. Both sides of the vases are decorated with an upper elongated cartouche painted...
