A beautiful vintage pair of mustard yellow stoneware doves designed by Italian ceramist Aldo Londi (1911-2003) for Bitossi. Made in Italy and imported to the US by Rosenthal Netter. The original tags are still attached. The pair includes a larger and a smaller dove. The beak of the smaller dove is shorter than that on the larger dove, but doesn't appear to have been damaged--it seems to have been created that way. The doves are finely crafted, with intricate incised geometric patterns, hand-stamped details, and a hand-painted finish. The mustard tones, glossy finish, and abstract design make this pair a stunning addition to any collection. Aldo Londi originally designed the dove in 1957 as part of the Rimini Blu series.
Aldo Londi worked for the Bitossi company, serving as its Artistic Director for 50 years. During his tenure, he created over a hundred ceramic pieces for the company, including vases, animals, candleholders and jugs. His most famous collection is undoubtedly the Rimini Blu line. An exceptional combination of glazes and layers of blue, in homage to the tones of the Mediterranean.
