The artistic ceramics factory “La Salamandra” was founded in Rome, in 1921, by Davide Fabbri with the collaboration of Renzo Cellini, with its headquarters in Via Pietro da Cortona 3.
A number of important ceramists from the group referring to Duilio Cambellotti collaborated with the factory during the Roman period, including Achille Mauzan, who may also have been a partner in the factory, and Alfredo Biagini.
In 1922, the factory was transferred to Perugia, ownership of the factory passed to the family of the industrialist Buitoni and Davide Fabbri took over as artistic and technical director.
Among the partners in the Perugia factory were Biagio Biagiotti and Giuseppe Baduel.
Until 1925, numerous pieces from the manufactory were marked SA/DRA Perugia.
In 1927, “La Salamandra” became part of the 'C.I.M.A.' (Consorzio Italiano Maioliche Artistiche) founded by Biagio Biagiotti and directed by Alpinolo Magnini.
In 1930 Davide Fabbri left the factory and in the 1930s Gennaro Strino became the factory's artistic director.
From 1933, the consortium changed its corporate structure, from cooperative to joint-stock company and began to mark its pieces with the acronym ‘C.I.M.A.’ followed by the words ‘Deruta-Perugia’ or simply “Perugia”
In 1935, when the family ceramic factory ‘S.A.C.R.U.’ in Umbertide was sold, Settimio Rometti worked for a few months in the ‘Salamandra’ workshops.
Other collaborators at the factory during the 1930s and 1940s were: Zulimo Aretini, Emma Bonazzi, Enrico Ciuti, Ezio Cocchioni, Marcello Fantoni, Ruffo Giuntini, Aldo Pascucci, Alberto Stolz and Nino Strada.
The factory remained active until 1955.
