About the Item

Hand-painted vase produced by Koninklijke Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland in Gouda, the Netherlands, dated 1919. The underside bears the model number 951, the painter's initials WvM., identifying the decorator as Wilhelmina Josina van Maaren, who worked at the factory until her marriage in 1920. The small tree-shaped year mark confirms production in 1919. Executed in tin-glazed earthenware, the vase features a flowing Art Nouveau composition of stylised birds perched among curling tree branches, rendered in dark greens, dark reds, ochres and natural tones. The organic movement of the decoration and the warm palette are characteristic of early 20th-century Dutch plateel production. In very good antique condition, showing only light surface scratches consistent with age. No chips, cracks, or restorations.
