About the Item

First exhibited by Les Cristalleries Baccarat at the Exposition Universelle in Paris of 1878, the vase named "Carpes affrontées" translates as confronted carp. The design has it's origins in far eastern art. In the mid 1800's, after three centuries of isolation Japan opened to international trade. Wood block prints, porcelain and textiles were imported to the West, the new designs depicted were highly popular, it was the era of Japonisme. Western art would incorporate these newly discovered themes for decades to come. The vase is made of molded glass, 2 colors, light amber and purple.
