Blenko Large Desert Green Vase Ombre Glass

About the Item

Large Blenko Glass Vase is hand blown in Desert Green color, with ombré color changes from a deep green to amber/yellow. Desert green color is made by taking a gather of blue Cobalt glass and encasing it in yellow Topaz, but leaving a very thick area of Topaz that contains no Cobalt at the bottom, and this vase is a great example of it. The green glass at the top is a combination of the two colors, blue and yellow, while the bottom is Topaz alone. Blue tinge on the top comes from dominant Cobalt that is not fully encased, adding depth and dimension to ombré effect. Each Desert Green piece is handmade and unique. Blenko's Desert Green was first produced in 1996 and 1997, and then produced again in 2000s. This particular shape was produced in late 1990s, dating the vase to late 1990s. The vase is missing its paper label and is unmarked, but can be easily identified by catalogues and labeled examples online.
