Japanese Contemporary Blue Pink Porcelain Vase by Master Artist Duo
About the Item
Exceptional Japanese Contemporary museum=quality extremely intricately hand painted decorative porcelain vase in blue elegantly featuring the four auspicious creatures of Chinese mythology said to be the guardians of the four points of the compass. This breathtaking vase is the collaborated creation of two brother artists working in tandem in the Imari-Arita region of southern Japan. It is inspired by the murals of the Kitora Tumulus, a 7th century burial mound unearthed in central Japan in recent years. Appearing on its murals in colorful detail are the four guardian creatures of ancient Chinese mythology. As recreated on the vase, these are the White Tiger (guardian of the west), the Blue
Dragon (east), the Vermillion Phoenix (south), and Black Turtle (north). The turtle, symbolizing long life, is shown entwined with a snake, representing fertility and the life force.
The two brother artists who collaborated to create this stunning vase follow a strict division of labor. The older brother is responsible for depicting the fauna and flora, while the younger brother works exclusively on the background and on creating the intricate geometric patterns that grace the neck and base of the vase. The signatures of both brothers appear on the reverse. Their profiles are available upon request.
This mesmerizing porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by both artists.
