About the Item
An original Art Deco ceramic vase by Charlotte Rhead for Crown Ducal, crafted in Staffordshire, England circa 1930s. This collectible British vase presents a distinctive urn-shaped form with a broad, rounded body structured by a rhythmic series of horizontal ridges, culminating in a narrower neck. Its stepped silhouette evokes the profile of a beehive, while a precise band of applied ceramic buttons introduces a deliberate, architectural rhythm.
Executed in a refined cream glaze, the finish pools naturally between each ridge, drawing out tonal depth and contour—an effect emblematic of Rhead’s decorative style and Crown Ducal’s production techniques during the interwar period. The contrast between smooth curves and applied detail reflects both the streamlined modernity and textural play central to British Art Deco ceramics.
Stamped to the base with the Crown Ducal backstamp and impressed with the model number "222". A representative example of 1930s English pottery, balancing sculptural form with decorative restraint.
Offered in good vintage condition, with light wear consistent with age and use.
