About the Item
Chinese Export Porcelain Large Five-piece Famille Rose Garniture of Vases,
Circa 1775-80
The Chinese Export porcelain flattened baluster vases and covers are of a large size with raised molded decoration around the central panels.
The vases without covers are pear-shaped with a flaring foot. There is a large panel on the lower section containing a flower basket overflowing with different flowers with some falling to the ground below and with two butterflies fluttering around the flowers. The panel is encircled with a molded raised white vine with molded flower heads and painted flowers. At the top of the panel are three applied squirrels. Above this is a smaller panel with scattered flower heads also enclosed with a vine border with molded and painted flower heads. To the sides are scattered flower heads between the raised vines.
The covered vases have a wide shoulder with the sides narrowing to the flared foot. The shape fills the void left by the narrow necks of the other shaped vases. The design is the same as the other vases except the order is reversed with the flower basket in the top panel.
Dimensions:
Covered vases: 16 1/2 inches high x 6 1/2 inches wide x 3 1/4 inches;
Baluster vases: 14 3/8 inches high x 6 1/2 inches wide x 3 1/4 inches deep;

18th C. Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose Mandarin 3-Piece Vase Garniture Set
Located in New York, NY
An 18th century Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose Mandarin 3-Piece vase Garniture Set. A status symbol between the 17th and 19th centuries, most garniture sets have by now been damaged or broken up with the individual pieces sold off. Few complete sets now exist, and even fewer survive in their original state, which makes this beautifully painted set of three Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose vases so much more special. With mandarin orange and gilt unusually bold and swooping dragon handles, each delicately decorated vase is completed with a lid seating a gloriously pompous foo dog. The bodies are decorated with hand painted famille rose flowerpot cartouches, as well as, chirping birds, and banded flowers and vines.
The exquisite hand painted tastefully colored floral displays each with their own hand painted vase creates a freshness and inspires within us the IDEA for further additions of fresh flowers within the home. One of the porcelain, three (3) piece garniture set, is smaller and has a variation of banded colors around its fluted foot, lending just the right amount of visual variation to this gorgeous trio. The white porcelain bulbous bodies are further decorated with colorful insects...
