About the Item

The vessel explores themes of abuse, transformation, and revenge, focusing on M., a woman who takes vengeance on men who mistreat her. It also reflects her lesbian, sexual liberation and empowerment. A large snowflake on the front represents her cocaine addiction and involvement in selling it, as it’s used in internet culture as a symbol for cocaine. "The pieces are part of my project ‘MMXV Bestiary’ exploring monstrosity amid Greece’s post-2008 financial crisis, highlighting the resulting impact of violence, poverty, and youth unemployment. Drawing from personal experiences, I wrote semi-fictional stories that merge mental health struggles and substance abuse with ancient myths of innocents cursed into monsters. The mythical creatures are entangled with their modern counterparts, bound by unjust social contracts." - Niki Danai Claws That Could Kill was part of the performance Exhibition "The Theater of Things" the show transformed the gallery into a domestic stage — an ever-evolving space shaped by the creative voices of seven designers. Each night, one of them slept in the space. Each morning, a journalist, curator, or critic joined for coffee and conversation — exploring what it means to live among collectible pieces. Inspired by radical gestures like Gianni Pettena’s La Casa all’Elba and Joseph Beuys’ Coyote performance, the exhibition is both lived experience and open dialogue. Unique piece.
