About the Item
This vintage Chinese vase combines architectural form with layered surface detail, offering a bold decorative statement. Its tall, hexagonal silhouette flares at the base and narrows at the midsection, creating a sculptural presence ideal for consoles, mantels, or display cabinets. The entire form is coated in a finely crackled glaze, transitioning from pale celadon near the rim to soft ivory and warm beige through the body and foot.
At the neck, a continuous Greek key motif encircles the collar, complemented by decorative raised motifs on each face—stylized forms resembling orchids, abstract figures, or masks depending on the viewer’s angle. These motifs appear to be cast or molded and applied before firing, adding dimensional contrast against the smooth glazed surface.
Marked on the underside with a red Chinese seal, the piece speaks to both tradition and stylistic experimentation. It reflects the decorative sensibilities of mid- to late-20th century Chinese ceramics, offering elegance with subtle historical reference. The opening is 5.5" x 5".
