Cranston Pottery Art Nouveau Lustre Glazed Art Pottery Vase

About the Item

Rare and probably unique Art Nouveau lustre glazed art pottery vase by Cranston Pottery and made around 1900. Probably an exhibition piece this lightly pottery earthenware vase stands on a narrow round foot with a squat wide rounded body and tall narrow funnel shaped neck. The body of the vase is hand painted in streaked coloured glazes with a vibrant lustre finish. This exceptional vase is marked TUKAN to the base which was later adopted as a design title by Cranston in more subdued matted colours. The lack of the Cranston mark to the base has been suggested that this was made as a unique trial piece. In good condition. Provenance: Acquired as part of large and interesting pottery collection containing many unusual and unique pieces.
