Doulton Lambeth Unusual Winged Foot Vase by Jane S Hurst 1880

About the Item

An unusual and stylish Doulton Lambeth Art Pottery vase decorated with ivy and winged feet by highly renowned artist Jane S Hurst dated 1880. The stoneware vase is of tall tapering square shape standing raised on four ball feet applied with bird wings, the base with a salt glazed finish. The sides of the vase are decorated with cross hatched fence like panels with trailing ivy the corners of the vase forming posts each applied with three ball shaped finials. The vase is painted in tones of grey and brown with red highlights to the wings with a natural salt glazed finish to the inside vase. The vase has impressed makers marks to the base and is dated 1880 and has incised monogram mark JH for Jane S Hurst and is a very early and unusual example by her. Provenance: From the Ann Turner Collection of Doulton Pottery acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
