About the Item

A very stylish modestly sized (6,7 inch / 17 cm) but heavy glass vase with the silhouet of a decanter inside. Apart from the space that outlines the silhouet, it's made of solid blue-ish glass. This design is documented in the complete works of Copier (Copier compleet Het oeuvre van A.D. Copier 1901–1991) See in last two pictures. A very decorative piece that can also serve as a vase for one flower. This 50 year old piece has no chips, just very small signs of use (but overall clear). Pictures were taken in different kind of light and sunlight, to give a good impression of how it could look in an interior. About the designer Copier, Andries Dirk (1901-1991) Copier grew up in Leerdam (famous for their glass) as the eldest of ten children in Leerdam. Immediately after completing primary school, he joined the Glass Factory 'Leerdam'. His artistic talent was soon to be noticed by P.M. Cochius, director of the factory from 1912 to 1933. From 1918 to 1919, Copier took lessons at the School for Typography in Utrecht and from 1920 to 1925 he studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam, takinf lessons from designer Jac. Jongert, who at the time was responsible for the graphic design of the Glass Factory 'Leerdam' Copier always worked with relentless energy and his life's work is a fascinating collection. He enjoyed the publicity and he gave interviews until the end of his life, in which he always expressed his passion for glass. In the 1980s, Copier received several awards, including an honorary membership of the American Glass Art Society in 1985 and the David Röell Prize in 1987. One of the characteristic of Copier's artistic work is the fact that he has always been open to new developments in all kinds of areas within the visual arts and architecture. It is his great merit that he managed to translate these influences into personal, contemporary designs. As a result, the products of the Glass Factory 'Leerdam' and its later 'free' glass testify to international relevance.
