Earth Orange Salt Vase Large in Clay Handcrafted in Portugal by Origin Made

About the Item

Jean and Dylan of Ladies & Gentlemen Studio were captivated by the array of textures and colours on display at João Lourenço's ceramic workshop and immediately began to consider new ways in which they could celebrate the richness of João's craft. Fascinated by the gradation of colours that reveal themselves when Metallic salts are added to a clay firing, they asked João if this effect could be applied to Pasta Grés Chamotada - a highly textured claybody. The result of this experiment is Salt Vase, a pair of tabletop vases in earthy orange and light cobalt blue. Each vase reflects the variation of material and process of one of the world's oldest crafts and the character that L&G finds so inspiring about Lourenço's work. Material: Pasta Grés Chamotada Due to this material and handcrafted process, the vases might present some different shades and color variations. The final texture, consistency and color of the piece depends on the firing conditions. All of our pieces are uniquely handcrafted and no one is the same as the other. Observations of such differences across products or orders does not constitute a basis for order cancellation or product returns. The vase comes with an ikebana frog in order to secure your plant or flowers. Designed by Ladies & Gentlemen Studio, made by João Lourenço. The Craftsman Working from his atelier in Barcelos, João Lourenço is a ceramic artist and master potter, one of the few craftsmen remaining who is experienced in producing objects in the traditional technique of Barro Preto. He also makes objects in terracotta, pasta greis chamotada and exhibits his hand made ceramics at local craft fairs. A man dedicated to his craft, full of positivity and openness, João was the first craftsman we collaborated with and fully embodies the spirit of Origin. The Designer Ladies & Gentlemen Studio is a multi-faceted design studio based in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood. Our aesthetic and design philosophy embraces complementary opposites with an unexpected balance of warm minimalism, playful austerity, and simple sophistication. Founded by Dylan Davis & Jean Lee in 2010, L&G Studio's explorative spirit is a blend of resourceful curiosity with the desire to celebrate material & functionality. Our open, multi-disciplinary approach to design yields an ever-evolving set of ideas and experiments collected from everyday discoveries, explorations, and surroundings. Care Instructions: Use a dry soft cloth Do not use household cleaners Not waterproof
