Eccentric murano vase by Toni Zuccheri

About the Item

An exceptional Murano glass vase created by Toni Zuccheri, one of the most important and innovative figures in 20th-century glass design. This piece is part of an experimental collection from the 1970s, characterized by the use of innovative glass-blowing techniques. Always seeking new forms of expression, Zuccheri created these masterpieces by blowing glass into molds with unusual shapes and then shaping it skillfully with tongs. The result is a vase of exceptional craftsmanship, with anthropomorphic forms that seem to come to life, featuring elegant and sinuous lines that create a fascinating interplay of soft and intriguing volumes. Toni Zuccheri, son of the famous animalist painter Luigi Zuccheri, inherited from his father a deep passion for the natural world, particularly animals, which became recurring subjects in his artistic creations. His works, both in glass and other materials, reflect a strong connection with nature, reinterpreted with great artistic sensitivity and refined techniques. After attending the architecture faculty at the University of Venice, Zuccheri had the opportunity to study under the guidance of great masters such as Ignazio Gardella, Franco Albini, Carlo Scarpa, and Giuseppe Samonà, absorbing from them an architectural and artistic vision that would profoundly influence his creative journey. This multifaceted training enabled him to skillfully merge the art of glass with the structural approach of architecture. His career as a glass designer began in the 1960s when he started collaborating with the prestigious VENINI manufacture, a reference point for Murano glass art. Following the family tradition, his early works included animals in polychrome glass, made with fine techniques such as "murrine," which allowed him to achieve unique chromatic and compositional effects. His talent and inventiveness led him to develop new artistic and technical solutions, enriching the Murano glass scene. In 1965, Zuccheri began a collaboration with Gio Ponti, one of the greatest masters of Italian design, with whom he developed an innovative glass panel system known as "Vetrate Grosse." This project marked an important step in his career, expanding the creative and technical possibilities of glass, making it a central material in both architecture and interior design. Over the years, Zuccheri continued to explore new colors, shapes, and subjects, participating in numerous international exhibitions and earning recognition from both the public and critics worldwide. His works, such as this extraordinary Murano glass vase, represent a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, with artisanal mastery combined with visionary creativity, capable of transforming glass into a living and vibrant form of art.
