Emile Gallé Bluevase, Art nouveau, 1910-1920

About the Item

French glass vase by Emile Gallé decorated in various shades of blue and white. It dates from around the 1900s and is in excellent original condition. Emile Gallé, a French artist and designer who worked in glass, was born in Nancy, France, in 1846. He quickly showed a talent for glassmaking while apprenticing in the family glass business. He was particularly interested in the use of color and experimented with a variety of techniques to create new and innovative effects. The vase is made of molded and etched glass. The molded glass is created by blowing glass into a mold, which gives the vase its distinctive shape. The etched glass is created by using acid to etch away the surface of the glass, revealing the underlying color.
