An Exceptional Pair of Old Paris Porcelain Campagna Form Vases, Circa 1830

About the Item

A large & striking pair of 19th century parcel gilt porcelain campagna vases with a strong, yet elegant presence. Both vases are decorated with gilt stencilled neoclassical themes against a matte cobalt blue ground, over burnished gilt bases & open handles with molded masks depicting the Roman god Janus, raised overall upon socle stems atop faux marbleized porcelain bases. (These particular vases are relatively scarce in the marketplace, as 'matte blue' was rarely used as a means of decoration, due to the difficulty both in its application & stability).
