Gilt Silver Victorian Posey Holder

About the Item

Gilt silver 19th century posey holder. Engraved with a monogram and a symbol similar to the caduceus, but with a hand on top of the pole and wings attached to entwined fire-breathing serpents. A ring of flowers encircle the top of the holder. Three rings of square studs encircle the holder midway and near the bottom. Flowers, leaves, arches and circles decorate the thinner part of the holder. A perfect gift for the woman who loves to wear flowers or for the collector or connoisseur. A posey or tussie-mussie is a small flower bouquet, typically given as a gift. They have existed in some form since at least medieval times, when they were carried or worn around the head or bodice.
