Glass Vase with Relief Applications Loetz Orange circa 1902 Austrian Jugendstil

About the Item

Glass vase manufactured by Johann Loetz Witwe unidentified decoration with relief applications ca. 1902 Austrian Jugendstil orange blue silver This vase in bright orange embodies an impressive rarity among the decorations of the glass manufacturer Loetz. Such relief surface decorations are rare in their execution and especially coveted by collectors. The mould-blown and freehand shaped vase impresses with its upward and downward warped alternation of applied threads in a relief-like convex execution. A fascinating feature is the continuation of the silver-blue thread decoration to the bottom of the vase. The enthralling transition of these convex relief-like applications into a concave spiral, which seems to harmoniously surround the pontil and the signature located within it, is masterfully realized in terms of craftsmanship. The playful decoration finds an excellent balance in the reduced and minimalist form with a simple mouth. This art object captivates not only by its aesthetic execution, but also by its rarity.
