Gunnar Nylund 'Rubus' Stoneware Vase, Rörstrand, Sweden, 1965

About the Item

This stoneware vase was designed by Gunnar Nylund and produced in Sweden in the late 1960s. Nylund designed many classics for the Swedish ceramic factory Rörstrand. One of the most well-known series is Rubus from 1965, consisting of stoneware bowls and vases. This wonderfully textured ceramic vase is finished with a mottled matte glaze in earthy tones, with beautiful hues of brown, green, gray and sand colors. Organically modeled bottle-like form with a carved gouged surface and flowing brown glaze over a pale gray stoneware. The vase is marked on the bottom with Rörstrand’s symbol (R), GN, Sweden, and the model number 5. Overall in very good, fully original condition with minimal wear. Other ceramicists of the period include Berndt Friberg, Axel Salto, Wilhelm Kåge, Lucie Rie, Hans Cooper and Carl-Harry Stålhane .
