A delicate hand-crafted vase, organic in shape with a torn clay opening in natural unglazed speckled stoneware clay.
Part of the Golden Promise Series which is a theme of abstracted and stylized elements from nature. This vase has rhythmic leaf shapes with golden seed details.
The decoration is created using mishima- a process of cutting and pressing motifs into clay creating fine channels for inlaying color. The pattern is also embellished with handpainted white slip and 22kt gold.
Helen Prior’s work is entirely hand-crafted and hand decorated. Each is a work of art. While ensuring consistency, they are never identical.

Helen Prior
Introducing British Artist Helen Prior. Her ceramics and textiles are deeply rooted in the natural world. These unique creations are a cross-pollination of the leaves and wildflowers of the Hudson Valley combined with stylized flowers and patterns from Helen’s historical textile archive. Her hand-crafted designs are achieved by cutting fine lines and pressing found objects into the rolled-out clay, creating striking super-plants and intricate patterns that are both modern and beautiful. All clay pieces are created in her studio in Kingston New York and the fabrics and pillows are printed in Pennsylvania on Linen with her carbon footprint and sustainability in mind.
Helen Prior is well-known in the fashion world for her textiles. She has been collaborating and producing fabrics for designers Such as Anna Sui and Rebecca Taylor for over 20 years through her company Angel Textiles.
