Heath Ceramics Box and Stopper Vase by Tung Chiang Limited Edition
About the Item
A mini-vase in two parts — box and stopper — intersects art and function to push the limits of a functional vessel. In Basalt over KPFA Green and Persimmon, it is a textured sculptural piece of art unto itself, yet transforms for playful floral arrangement any which way. The Box and Stopper Vase was originally designed as part of the Design Series 6, which celebrated the art of mold-making and objects at a smaller scale. Designed by Tung Chiang and handcrafted in the Heath Clay Studio in San Francisco, CA.
This is a limited edition item. Handwritten 65/100 and stamped Heath.
Tung Chiang is a designer, ceramist, and director of the Heath Clay Studio in San Francisco. His globe- and discipline-spanning career encompasses work in graphic design and advertising in Hong Kong, furniture design in Pasadena, and industrial design and ceramics in San Francisco. He characterizes his trajectory as “an evolution from 2D to 3D, toward a fusion of thinking, designing and making. All along, I nurtured my long-standing interest in ceramics and built my skills as a potter, throwing pots late into the night whenever I could.” Chiang currently focuses on pottery, combining whimsy and elegance in hand-thrown wall clocks, candleholders, and lamps, among other objects. Chiang’s ceramic lamps feature light bulbs nestled in bowls and vases pocked with holes, allowing the glow to emit lovely patterns.
