Japanese antique pottery large Jar/1400s/color gradation by kiln firing/Shigarak

About the Item

We have a wonderful Japanese antique pot in stock. This is "Shigaraki ware". Shigaraki is a historical kiln located in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. It is said to have originated in the 8th century. In Japan, there are 6 historical kilns that are still in operation. One of them. This item dates back to the 1400s. The period is the Muromachi period, which is older than the Edo period. Shigaraki ware from this period is characterized by a brownish red or orange burnt color. The mouth is smaller than the diameter of the body, and the diameter is the largest at the center of the vase. Also, as a reference material, a similar item from the same era as this item was listed in the Japanese art book "Shigaraki Ware Masterpiece Encyclopedia", so I am attaching a photo. It gives the impression of being inflated like a balloon, and is very powerful and rich. In addition, a natural glaze is poured over it, and the surroundings are baked black, completing a beautiful gradation of color. It is a beautiful art that nature can create. 360 degrees looks great from any angle. Also, there is a very thin crack in the part marked in red, but when water is added, water will leak out from here, so when decorating flowers, put a long cylindrical container inside. and put some water in there. Other than that, there are no scratches and it is in very good condition. Also, one of the characteristics of Shigaraki ware is that the bottom part is designed like "=". This is called the "geta" mark, and it is thought to be part of the ingenuity to keep that part in place when making Shigaraki ware. Shigaraki ware with such a beautiful shape is highly appreciated in Japan. This time, it is posted on this site with priority. Because I want many people in the world to know the goodness of this Shigaraki ware. The price is also very reasonable, so why not decorate it in your living room or entrance. It is a highly recommended item. Weight: 13.65kg

A large Japanese lidded ceramic jar from the kiln of Onda Yaki, circa 2010. The stoneware jar impresses the viewer with a robust bulbous form. Its black body is nearly unglazed but exuberantly splashed with strokes of slip glazes of white, yellow and blue. The visual effect is wonderful that it appears traditional and contemporary at the same time. The tri-color glaze calls to mind the San-Cai from Chinese Tang dynasty, yet the application is akin to abstract painting on canvas. Onda Yaki also spelled as Onta Yaki also spelled Onta, is a type of Japanese pottery produced in and around the village of Onta in Oita Prefecture in Kyushu Island. It was founded in 1705. Closely associated with Mingei folk art, Onda ware was inscribed by the national government in 1995 as an Intangible Cultural Property Background from Pucker Gallery where the jar was exibited and purchased. "In his search for true folk pottery, the Japanese philosopher Soetsu Yanagi...
