Japanese Beautiful Antique Pottery/Sue Pottery/Around 9th Century/Excavated Vase

About the Item

We have an aesthetic sense peculiar to Japanese people. And we introduce the unique items that only we can do, the route of purchasing in Japan, the experience value so far, and the way that no one can imitate. This pottery is baked at around 1200 degrees. In the past, earthenware was fired in the open at low temperatures, but with the development of kiln technology, it can now be fired at high temperatures. A group of pale gray pottery like this is called Sueki in Japan. Born in Osaka, "sueki" is gradually being made in various parts of Japan. Sueki comes in many different shapes, but this item is called ``Sagebe'' in Japan, and it is not known in detail what it was used for. The protruding part was originally in the shape of a ring. It is believed that it was used by hanging a string through the ring. As the times progressed, people at that time stopped hanging it, and it changed its shape to the shape of a protrusion. It then takes the form of a button and eventually disappears. And this is "Sagebe" which has changed into a protruding part. It is a design that gradually spread from western Japan to eastern Japan, so it is thought to be an item from around the 9th century. This item also has pieces of pottery stuck to it, which is probably due to the fact that the kiln was so crowded that some pieces of pottery placed next to each other became stuck together. The tip is missing, but other than that there is no damage. I think it is in relatively good condition for an excavated item. It does not stand on its own, so place it on a ring made of paper. Water can be added to about one-third. There was an illustration of the evolution process of this "sagebe" in a specialized book, so I will post it here. A similar item was also published in an art book, so I will also post it here. Weight:1.6㎏ If you want something special, we encourage you to purchase our selected items. We mainly sell carefully selected old Japanese items. I've seen tens of thousands of items so far. Based on that experience, only selected items are posted here.

Japanese Antique 13th Century Small Pottery Vase / Wabi Sabi Flower Vase
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
Since ancient times, people have created necessary tools from familiar materials, passed them on, and nurtured a lifestyle culture in order to survive in the severe struggle against nature. Over a long period of time, the tools accumulate a certain flavor and reflect the way of life. The harsher the natural environment and the weaker the human being, the stronger the power of the tool. In today's world, where cheap and disposable products are encouraged, the act of repeatedly modifying and re-creating the things around us opens up a new world. With this philosophy in mind, we collect beautiful, powerful, unique, and carefully selected Japanese antiques. This is a very old ceramic vase...
