About the Item

A large Swedish Floor Vase with Relief Decor, ”Under the surface”, Anna-Lisa Thomson, Upsala-Ekeby 1940s Sweden. Swedish Modern A striking floor vase, manufactured by Swedish porcelain producers Upsala-Ekeby after the design of Anna-Lisa Thomson. Beginning in the mid 1930s, Thompson would change the ceramic design of Upsala-Ekeby, which would be rewarded with international acclaim and awards during the 1930s. The vase consists of a white glazed ovoid shape, covered with a decorative relief-scheme. The decor is taken from the natural world, mainly aquatic plants along with a crescent moon. Typical decoration scheme of Swedish Modern movement as well as the artist. Impressed "EKEBY". Slight, but charming, crazing in glazing (not structurally), as well as discoloring from metallic object on the inside bottom of the piece. Wear consistent with age and use.
