About the Item

Iridescent swirls adorn this rare Candia Silberiris tree trunk vase from the renowned 19th-century art glass firm Loetz. Crafted in a sensuous, organic design with Loetz's signature luster and measuring over 16 inches in height, this vase exhibits the quintessential Art Nouveau sensibility for which Loetz glass is so loved. One of the largest producers of high-quality art glass in the Art Nouveau style, Loetz is renowned for their innovative art glass-making techniques. Their majestic iridescent glass was rivaled only by Tiffany, and their reputation for superior artistry combined with successful showings at great International Exhibitions made Loetz one of the most acclaimed names in glass. This particular vase was created at the same time the firm won the Grand Prize at the Paris Exhibition Universelle, dating it to the height of Loetz's workmanship. A nearly identical vase was featured in the Musée du Verre Coches' 2018 exhibition: Loetz 1900 Verre de Boheme. Circa 1900 16 1/2” high x 6 5/8” diameter

This rare cameo glass vase by the French glassmaker Émile Gallé features an exceptional mold-blown design of a fruiting plum tree. While the majority of Gallé vases were blown into molds before being carved or enameled, only a very small handful were wholly designed to take shape within the mold. The stunning result is evident in this rare example, which showcases the ripe fruits protruding naturally from the body of the vase. Considered one of the pioneers of Art Nouveau, Gallé was renowned for his naturalistic glass artistry. In 1889, he displayed his new glass creations at the Paris International...
