Longwy French Art Deco Ceramic Bowl

About the Item

A stunning Art Deco period faience bowl, made in France by the Emaux de Longwy art pottery workshop and dating circa 1920-30s. This earthenware bowl is hand-decorated with Chinoiserie decor and a cloisonné-style enameled glaze. The decoration consists of multicolored blossoms with green leaves and blue stems on a bright blue background. The underside is a pale turquoise blue with Longwy's signature craquelure crazing; the upper rim is a contrasting dark cobalt blue. The underside is fully marked with several hand-written, printed numbers above Longwy's printed mark, featuring details of the creation process Décoré A La Main, Emaux LONGWY around the design and FRANCE below. This mark was used during the Art Deco period between 1919 and 1939. The piece is in very good condition with typical glaze pops, measuring 8 1/4 in. Diameter x 2 1/2 in. High. Very good condition, consistent with age and use, no chips or cracks. This Longwy ceramic bowl with it's French Art Deco style will enhance any shelf, countertop, table in a variety of settings.
