About the Item

Marga III Vessel by Raquel Vidal and Pedro Paz Exclusive for Galerie Philia Dimensions: Ø 23 x H 44 cm. Materials: Ceramic. All our pieces are handmade in our own workshop located in Valencia. Please contact us. Based in Spain, Canoa Lab ceramics echo the shapes and textures of ancient artifacts, imparting a sense of ritual for modern use. Our ceramics focus on texture, colour and form, calling to the ancient design of Iberian, Roman and Greek societies of the Mediterranean. We believe in slow industry, taking care and time to create each piece with local materials and ancient techniques. Ever since we met, we’ve worked together on many projects, which have enabled us to carry out continuous research in different but convergent directions derived from the painting and sculpting fields, always wondering about the irrefutable space-time relationship. After several years of work in which we combined our most plastic production with image projects linked to photography, video, graphics and art, we came across metal and clay, two materials which, as they are closely connected, caught our attention both in terms of their durability and because they have undoubtedly marked the development of our society. Ceramics and metal allow us to review routes from the past into the present; two crafts that require a slow production time, which makes the observation and acquisition of small fragments indispensable for the creation of cartography. Experimentation with glazes, with natural beeswax and its subsequent casting process, and with the shapes and hybridization of both materials, are territories rich in processes which deserve to be observed and from which we obtain samples for our future study. This makes us feel like metal and clay archaeologists.
