Mark V Marshall Doulton Lambeth Abstract Leaf & Berry Design Vase
About the Item
A very stylish and unusual Art Nouveau Doulton Lambeth Art Pottery vase decorated with abstract leaf and raised fruiting berries by renowned modeler, designer and decorator Mark V Marshall and dated 1904. The stoneware vase is of tall slender bottle shape standing on a skirted unglazed round foot with a rounded bulbous shaped body narrowing to a slender neck with a small trumpet shaped top. The vase uis hand decorated with scrolling leaves in blue against a white glazed ground with slightly raised elements in pink comprising of berries and other leaf style designs. The white glaze shows through elements of the color of the clay in places and the vase has slightly darker contrasting elements within the painted designs. The vase has incised MVM marks to the base along with Doulton Lambeth marks and also has various incised numbers. The vase has a date mark for 1904.
Provenance: From the collection of a Belgium based collector.
In good condition with light wear associated with age and use and with some natural glaze flaws in the making.
