Mid-Century Modern West German Fat Lava Vase by Jasba Keramik

About the Item

A striking mid-century modern 1950s fat lava vase by the renowned West German pottery maker Jasba Keramik. The company was founded in 1926 by Jakob Schwaderlapp in Ransbach-Baumbach and until its end in the late 1970s, it was famous for producing a wide range of colorful and unusual art pottery pieces. This is their form number 101/22 (see photo of base mark). This specific vase has been decorated in very interesting motif, typical for the era. The vase features a base of white fat lava glaze (i.e. volcano glaze). Room has been left for four vertical stripes with medallions in matte olive-green glaze. The stripes and the medallions are further decorated with red and white glossy stripes/motifs. The inside has a bright yellow glaze. An authentic mid-century modern piece that feels surprisingly modern. In very good vintage condition. No chips, no cracks. Minor signs of wear consistent with age. A collector's item. Dimension: height 22.5 cm/ 8 1/2", maximum diameter 13 cm/ 5", diameter top 7 cm/ 2 3/4", diameter base 7 cm/ 2 3/4". Weight: 796 g/ 1.75 lb
