About the Item
This Scandinavian Modern vase from the 1950s is a wonderful example of Swedish Mid-Century Design. Designed by Berit Ternell, the shaped vase is decorated in relief with an all over grain pattern and glazed in a rich blue. The manufacturer's gilt label remains close to the rim.
Berit Ternell (b. 1929) is a Swedish ceramic artist and designer who joined Gefle Porslinsfabrik, part of Upsala-Ekeby AB, as lead designer in 1957. Ternell's work has been widely recognized for its contributions to mid-century Scandinavian ceramic design, creating elegant pieces that integrated good design, a well balanced sense of form and function, and a distinctly Scandinavian embrace of natural motifs.
