Midcentury Edvin Öhrström for Orrefors Sweden Graal Glass Vase

About the Item

This heavy Orrefors Graal glass vase was designed by highly regarded Swedish designer Edvin Öhrström (1906–1994). The piece has a classic flared cylindrical shape and features a thick layer of clear glass over a smoky amethyst color. The 5lb 8oz vase has been made with a subtle pattern of striations which resemble brush strokes. The foot is signed Orrefors Sweden along with the type of glass Graal and designation S 165 L, dating the piece to 1956. It is signed E. Öhrström. This elegant Swedish art glass vase has a timeless form and would be an ideal addition to midcentury decor or works equally well in an eclectic setting. A lovely example.

This elegant iridescent gold Favrile art glass vase was made by Tiffany Studios operating under the direction of Louis Comfort Tiffany. Tiffany Favrile Glass was first offered to the public in 1893 and this hand-blown piece dates to the mid-to-late 1920s. The vase has a warm golden glow and was crafted with a wide domed pedestal base that gives way to a ribbed body. The body flares slightly as it rises and transitions dramatically to a wide shallow neck that terminates in a scalloped-edge rim. As seen in the accompanying photographs, the well-balanced piece is nicely proportioned and displays beautifully. The vase stands 8.375" as measured to its tallest point and is 3.75" across the rim. The foot is 4" foot from edge to edge. The piece is free of chips and cracks and is presented in original condition with no restoration or repair. The underside bears a typical Tiffany Studios late production compound number signature reading L. C. Tiffany Inc. - Favrile and includes shape number 1548 followed by serial number 3164 N. This early 20th century Art Nouveau porcelain vase was designed by Paul Dachsel for Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel Amphora of Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia. The piece has an organic squash-like form and features Dachsel's distinctive ribbed mouth design at the top. The body of the vase is flanked by two delicate arched arms with reticulated detail. This ivory porcelain vase has a blush colored body with gilt accents at the foot and handles. The front and back piece have been hand-painted with a floral motif in a Japanese style and feature the images of gilt accented purple orchids with long green leaves. The ribbed mouth is finished in a matte green that echoes the color of the foliage and also has gilt highlights. An example of this shape with similar decoration can be seen on page 66 of Richard L. Scott's 'Ceramics From The House Of Amphora 1890-1915. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. As an antique item, the piece shows appropriate signs of age consisting of wear to the gilded decoration. The vase stands just over 6" tall and is 2" as measured from the furthest points of the mouth. The foot is just over 2" in diameter and bears the RStK burnt in mark reading "RStK TURN Teplitz...
