A Monumental "Exhibition" Pair Of Baccarat Opaline Glass Bronze Mounted Vases
About the Item
An Important and Monumental "Exhibition" Pair Of French Baccarat Opaline Opaque Glass Bronze Mounted Vases and Covers, Most Certainly Made For The Exposition Universelle of 1878.
In the annals of artistry, certain creations stand as epitomes of beauty, transcending their temporal origins to become timeless masterpieces. Such is the case with this pair of extremely rare Baccarat opaline glass vases, a dazzling testament to the opulence and meticulous craftsmanship of the 19th century.
These vases, with their baluster form and stepped shoulders, beckon the observer into a world where art and nature entwine in a delicate dance. The opaline glass serves as an ethereal canvas, upon which scenes of avian splendor unfold with captivating grace.
At first glance, the observer is greeted by the enchanting portrayal of a pair of nesting birds amidst thorny branches. The artist's hand has captured not only the avian grace but also the intricate details of blossoms and autumnal leaves, creating a tableau of harmonious beauty. Signed by the skilled artisan N. Vivien, these vases carry not just aesthetic appeal but also the weight of an individual creator's legacy.
The verso of the vases reveals a mirrored narrative, with similar pairs of birds adorning thorny branches, their presence heightened by the ethereal flutter of delicate butterflies. The meticulous brushstrokes bring life to the glass, making each vase a dynamic story in itself.
Adding a regal touch, gilt-bronze strap handles grace the vessels, seamlessly integrating with the composition. As the gaze descends, the feet of the vases present a claret-ground adorned with tooled-gilding. The domed covers, crowned with acanthus leaves and fruiting vine motifs, boast gilt-bronze urn-shaped knops, inviting admiration for their intricate detailing.
Every aspect of these vases is a testament to the dedication to detail. The stepped-feet, embellished with gilded bands edged in foliate-scrollwork, provide a sturdy foundation while elevating the vases to a heightened realm of sophistication. The square feet, with chamfered corners, proudly reserve rectangular blue/black glass panels, intricately adorned with a gilded diaper pattern, showcasing a meticulous attention to detail.
The authenticity of these masterpieces is underscored by the Baccarat factory mark, discreetly stamped on the screws at the bases of the vases and the underside of the covers. This mark not only certifies their origin but also attests to the uncompromising commitment to quality associated with the renowned Baccarat name.
As we admire the scenes painted on opaline glass and trace the intricate patterns of gilt-bronze, we are invited to partake in the timeless allure of these exceptional creations, each telling a story. A symphony of elegance, these vases resonate with the echoes of a craftsmanship that has left an indelible mark on the tapestry of art history.
