About the Item

This magnificent porcelain vase with a lid, crafted by Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM), rests on an elegant base and is exquisitely painted. The front and back of the vase are adorned with opulent floral arrangements in vibrant shades of red, yellow and purple. Golden rims frame the yellow fluting, which is complemented by gilded pearl strings in relief, palmettes, and chain ornaments. The cone-shaped lid knob and the vase body's end are decorated with green acanthus leaves and golden accents. The fluted handles end in elaborately colored acanthus leaves, which underline the classical elegance of the piece. This type of "Weimar Vase" is one of the KPM products whose shape has remained unchanged over the centuries, varying only in its decoration. The form is characterized by its urn shape, handles, and snake motifs. It was named after its original patron, Duchess Louise of Saxe-Weimar and was first designed in 1785. It bears a blue scepter mark underglaze, an unidentified painter's signature: the letters “A” and “K”, which is surrounded by five dots, as well as the number “2”.
